Why You Should Be Terrified of the Amazon's 860-Volt "Battery Fish"

Imagine having enough raw electricity inside your body to power a refrigerator and paralyze a massive crocodile. Electric eels swim around packing a lethal 860-volt punch. But why doesn't this swimming lightning bolt accidentally shock itself to death every time it hunts?

They also pack all their vital organs right near their head, heavily wrapped in thick, insulating fat. Add a layer of highly resistant slimy skin, and you have a completely shock-proof underwater predator.
