Reddit user AsejereDaDeje created the Photon graphics editor using neural networks , modeled after Adobe Photoshop. The project is available to anyone—the program is free to download for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
The work began with exploring Photoshop's capabilities. The author instructed the neural network to collect information about the editor's features and then fed it to GPT-6 Astra in Extra High mode to generate a development plan. After several revisions, the model produced the first version of Photon—it was already working, although it remained unstable and contained bugs.
Development then proceeded in short iterations: AsejereDaDeje used the program himself, found bugs, and suggested improvements, after which GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable refined the code. In total, the enthusiast spent about $2,000 on tokens for the neural networks.
From an economic standpoint, doing this just to save on a subscription didn't make sense to me. But yesterday I launched the program and already had 170 active users—potentially saving 170 licenses in one day.

As a result, Photon now features many features familiar to Photoshop users: layers and masks, smart objects, curves, effects, selection tools, and background removal. However, the developer doesn't consider their program a full-fledged replacement for Adobe's editor.
To download Photon, you'll need to provide an email address—a download link will be sent in an email.
